LOWER EXTREMITY ARTERIAL STUDY

Your doctor has ordered a Lower Extremity Arterial Study. This test will help assess the blood flow in your legs. Please allow approximately 1 hour for this exam.

The test will be performed in the Non-Invasive Cardiology Services department.

Explanation of Procedure

Blood pressure cuffs will be placed around different parts of your legs, toes, and arms. Each cuff inflates one at a time while a small transducer will be used to listen to your pulses. This allows the technician to assess your pressures and waveforms throughout your lower extremities.

Preparation for Procedure

  1. There are no special dietary instructions or restrictions for this test.
  2. The technician will give you a gown to wear during the procedure. You will need to undress from the waist down, leaving on your undergarments.
  3. The technician will take a brief medical history, such as symptoms, surgeries, and current medications.

RESULTS

An MCH Cardiologist will interpret the test and results will be given to your doctor.
